If you are installing a ceiling fan, the fan must be installed in accordance with the fan manufacturer's installation instructions regarding proper support. The electrical junction box must be secured to a joist, a crossbrace, or a cross hanger, as required by the ceiling fan manufacturer.

If you are installing the Purifan on an existing ceiling fan check to ensure that the ceiling fan has been installed properly and according to manufacturer requirements.

Consult a qualified electrician if in doubt.

WARNING:
To reduce risk of electrical shock, ensure electricity has been turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning.

Preparations
Turn off ceiling fan. Allow time for the fan to come to a complete stop, and light bulbs to cool before proceeding.

Depending on the light assembly configurations, the Purifan can be installed over the light fixture by removing light bulbs and decorative globes. However, in some ceiling fan models it may be necessary to remove the entire light assembly.

Warning electrical shock hazard:
If the light assembly is to be removed, be sure that electricity to the ceiling fan has been turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box, prior to disconnecting the light fixture assembly.

To Begin Installation:

1. Remove the Fan Paddle Blades. Support the paddle blade and remove the screws that fasten the paddle blades brackets to the ceiling fan motor.

2. Using the screws that fastened the paddle blade support arms to the fan motor, mount the "L" end of the Purifan mounting brackets to the fan motor, skipping one motor mounting hole between each bracket. Four brackets for four blade fans, five brackets for five blade fans.

3. Loosen each bracket screw 1/4 turn, and rotate all but two brackets toward the center of the fan motor.

4. Suspend one side of the Purifan on the extended brackets and support the opposite side while rotating the remaining brackets outward so as to support the entire Purifan unit.

NOTE
If the Purifan will not fit over the light fixture assembly, refer to Preparations page. Warning, electricity must be disconnected prior to removal of the light fixture assembly.

5. Rotate one bracket until it lines up with a Purifan mounting hole. Use holes labeled 4/5 and 4, for a four bladed fan. Use holes 4/5 and 5 for a five bladed fan. Loosely fasten the positioned bracket to the Purifan using one of the 1/4" x 3/4" screws and lock washers provided.

6. Rotate each of the remaining brackets into place (4/5, 4 or 4/5, 5) and loosely fasten with 1/4" x 3/4" screws and lock washers provided.

NOTE
Proper alignment of the bracket will not generally be straight out from the fan, but at some angle.

7. Tighten all bracket screws, first on the fan motor and secondly, the Purifan end of the bracket. Reinstall the light fixture assembly if necessary. Restore electrical power to the fan.

8. Turn on the ceiling fan. If the Purifan does not rotate in a counter clockwise direction, or from right to left as viewed from below, turn off the fan, wait until the fan comes to a complete stop, and reverse the direction of the fan using the ceiling fan motor reverse switch.

9. Remove the plastic tape with the imprinted preferred direction of rotation. Turn on the fan and enjoy clean fresh air.
Like ceiling fans, the Purifan may exhibit a slight wobble, which will not affect the operation or performance of the unit. If the wobble is excessive or unacceptable, follow the following leveling procedures.

Leveling Procedures:
1. If your Purifan has a vertical "wobble", turn off the fan and wait until it is rotating slowly. Using a yard stick or ruler, measure the distance from the ceiling to the outside circumference of the Purifan, and locate that part of the fan that measures the greatest distance from the ceiling.

2. Remove the screw fastening the bracket to the Purifan, on that part of the Purifan measuring the greatest distance from the ceiling. Insert a leveling washer between the brackets (s) and the Purifan. Reinstall and tighten the bracket screw.

3. If your Purifan has a horizontal "wobble", loosen all screws that fasten the bracket to the Purifan. Change all brackets, One Bracket at a Time, to the fan motor paddle blade mounting holes previously skipped. Do Not restart the Purifan until all brackets have been switched to the adjacent motor mounting screw hole. There should always be precisely one unused motor mounting hole between purifan brackets.

4. Tighten all screws.
